This recording has been reissued in the Essential Baroque Masterpieces collection with an exclusive interview of Vincent Dumestre :

"I wanted to evoke the repertory in the liveliest way i could. it was standard practice to reuse widely known themes, which explains the presence of songs like Greensleeves and Callinoe or dance tunes such as Sellengers Ronnde and the Passymeasure Galliard.

The lute as a harmony instrument is the foundation of my project and my ensemble. it’s a remarkably flexible instrument in the way it can adapt to different musical situations; the Elizabethan period exploited its full contrapuntal and melodic potential. indeed, it was this aspect that took pride of place at the time, since the basso continuo had not yet acquired its later supremacy."
