This recreation of popular dances from the Belle Epoque was recorded in 1989 by talented musicians from Lyon who were eager to revive the early days of the polka (around 1845), the quadrilles, the Scottish, the mazurkas and waltzes. As fashions evolved, these dances went through haphazard changes, resurfacing in countless different variants and undergoing different regional influences (Varsovian, Limousin, Ostend, Auvergnat, a troika from the Ardennes, ...), much like the 'quadrille des Lanciers' on this album, which subsisted for a longer period of time. Their resurrection thanks to this Franco-Belgian project is an important element, contributing to a better understanding of the evolution of traditional dances.
