It has been a long week for Andrea De Carlo and the Il Pomo d’Oro ensemble, who have just finished recording Stradella’s last opera Doriclea in Caprarola (Viterbo), to be released next year as part of the Stradella Project on the Arcana label. For this recording, they lined up an absolutely stellar cast including Emőke Baráth (Doriclea), Xavier Sabata (Fidalbo), Giuseppina Bridelli (Lucinda), Luca Cervoni (Celindo), Gabriella Martellacci (Delfina) and Riccardo Novaro (Giraldo). A group of marvellous performers for this recently rediscovered masterpiece by Stradella, who died just a few months after the opera’s premiere in February 1682, after being stabbed to death on the streets of Genoa by a professional hitman.

On 2 September 2017, the cast also gave a rousing performance of Doriclea in the “Auditorium Parco della Musica” (Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia) in Rome, prior to commencing the recording sessions. Also in the audience was one of Stradella’s biggest fans, the composer Salvatore Sciarrino, who was inspired by Stradella's colourful life and work for his latest opera, Ti vedo, ti sento, mi perdo, which will premiere at La Scala in November.
