Robin Ticciati will take up his new position with the multi award-winning Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester from the beginning of the 2017-18 season. To launch this exciting new partnership Ticciati and the DSO present Debussy’s La Mer, Fauré’s Pelléas et Mélisande and the premiere recording of composer Brett Dean’s arrangements of Debussy’s Ariettes oubliées featuring Magdalena Kožená. Following his DSO debut in 2014 Ticciati chose La Mer to perform when he returned as the newly announced Principal Conductor in 2016. Ticciati conducted La Mer and Pelléas et Mélisande across Europe with the LPO, Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Budapest Festival Orchestra receiving excellent reviews: ‘La Mer, however, was terrific, with Ticciati patiently building up the vast canvas of Debussy at his most elemental’ (Financial Times). Brett’s new arrangements expand on the colours heard in Debussy’s original six songs applying unbelievably delicate orchestration that sounds like gossamer; The Daily Telegraph declared it ‘a revelation’ stating ‘Dean’s adventurous but respectful settings highlighting Kožená’s radiant top register and fine expressive range.’

"And the performances are as nonpareil as ever — as with this intriguing coupling. The rarity here is the orchestration by Brett Dean of Debussy’s songs Ariettes oubliées, sensitively sung by Magdalena Kozena and which in this new iteration add an intriguing new piece to the recorded repertoire of the French composer."
