The Hungarian minority in Romania was a perfect example of the richness of rural communities and their lifestyle, because of their isolation in the eighties… until the Soviet bulldozers arrived to raze their villages. That is why Claude and Lou Flagel attempted to capture some of these immaterial gems of Hungarian heritage, which were imported to Transylvania, over a period of four days in 1988.

The wedding melodies, dances, ballads and funeral chants on this album reflect a culture in which European and oriental styles harmoniously coexisted, and which, at the time, was under serious threat from the communist power.
