Philippe Rogier was known throughout Europe as the 'Honour, Light and Glory of Flanders'. As a Franco-Flemish composer serving the Spanish throne he wrote music in the closing days of the Renaissance. Missa Ego sum qui sum contains Rogier's mass plus a total of six of his motets, as well as music by Nicolas Gombert, which provided the model for Rogier's mass.
The recording serves up expressive harmonies and sumptuous vocal textures. This recording demonstrates that Rogier should be held as one of the finest composers of the Renaissance.
